Findings & recommendations

J Bashford and Associates were engaged to carry out an inspection and provide a full report detailing the current condition of the equipment and recommend restorative works. The lift control panel and lift plant room equipment had been subjected to heat and smoke damage. Although the control panel appeared externally to be in an acceptable condition, we advised against the retention and re-use. Given the potential for an adverse effect on the safe operation of the lift and continued component failure complete replacement of the lift plant room equipment, control panel and floor selection equipment was required.

The lift hoisting unit reduction gearbox and drive motor had also subject of significant heat and smoke damage. Therefore complete replacement, including fixings and sound isolation mountings was required.

The lift guide rails and guide rail brackets, particularly in the area adjacent to the source of the explosion has suffered significant material damage and distortion. The damaged lift shaft equipment including limit switches, landing door equipment, emergency stop switches and wiring trunking/conduit, particularly in the area adjacent to the source of the explosion has suffered significant material damage and therefore replacement will be required.
