The lift installation wiring, trailing cables and hoisting ropes particularly within the lift shaft were damaged. Therefore complete rewiring and replacement of the trailing cables and hoisting ropes was required.

Although the existing lift car enclosure appeared externally to be in an acceptable condition, the effects of the explosion, heat and copious amounts of falling masonry would have distorted and weakened the structural integrity of the frame and associated fixings. Whilst the lift car sling and associated components could have been dismantled and each individually inspected/tested for damage, we advised that this would not prove to be the most cost effective solution.

Therefore given the potential for an adverse effect on the safe operation of the lift, we recommended complete replacement of the lift car sling, enclosure and lift car ancillary equipment, including door operator.

J Bashford and Associates provided the lift owners with a detailed restorative works specification. Due to our knowledge and experience of lift equipment, we were able to advise on available materials and delivery lead-in periods for major components, the restorative works and anticipated costs for presentation to the owners insurers.
