Supplementary Tests of In-Service Lifts 2006

The Safety Assessment Federation Guidelines on the Supplementary Tests of In-Service Lifts 2006

The revised guidelines for Supplementary Tests of In-Service Lifts 2006 have superseded the previous document "Lifts Guidelines (LG1) which was published by SAFed in December 1998 which has now been withdrawn.

These revised guidelines were formulated by a review committee comprising owners, users, lift manufacturers, lift maintenance companies, inspection bodies, lift consultants, enforcement authorities and other professional bodies and was chaired by The Health & Safety executive.

These supplementary tests can be requested by the competent person (usually the insurance engineer surveyors) when there are concerns regarding the condition of equipment arising from the thorough examination.

The purpose of the supplementary tests is to support the thorough examination in order to establish the equipment's suitability for continued safe use. Such supplementary tests, which should only be called for by the competent person, will need to be undertaken and documented in order to enable the subsequent thorough examination to be completed. Failure to complete the supplementary tests any preclude the completion of the subsequent thorough examination. In some circumstances the competent person may require to witness the 'supplementary tests'.
