Examination and Testing of lifts 1998 (LG1) A brief outline of the key components as defined by LG1 subject of supplementary examination and/or test : Earth continuity -10 yearly Electrical safety devices - annually Terminal speed reduction systems - 10 yearly Landing door interlocks - annually Main drive systems components - 10 yearly Overspeed limitation devices - 5 and 10 yearly Buffers - annually Suspension ropes and chains - every thorough examination Car overload detection devices - 10 yearly Hydraulic systems - 5 yearly Hydraulic rupture/restrictor valves - 5 yearly Hydraulic cylinders - 10 yearly Any such supplementary examinations and tests deemed necessary will normally be those detailed in LG1. The person that undertakes LG1 tests and examinations or any other particular examination called for by the competent person may not be the competent person that undertakes the statutory through examination as required by LOLER. Any person that does undertake LG1 examinations and tests should however be competent for that purpose.
